Off The Eaten Path Pea & Pinto Bean Sticks Sea Salt| Chewsday Review
Let’s spill the beans on this snack! With a whole lot of crunch, these pea sticks might just be ‘stalking’ their way into your pantry. Are you pea-king with curiosity? Let’s dig in!
Pea and bean sticks but they’re not even half pea and beans? Hmmm
Allergens: None.
May contain: Wheat, milk, soy, gluten.
Positives
These pea sticks are low in saturated fat (1.3g per 100g) which is almost half the amount of saturated fat in regular potato chips.
Although total fat is high, a majority of this is from monounsaturated fat which is a healthy fat to have in your diet.
They are a convenient toddler snack to decant into snack boxes or bags. Keep in mind these don’t have as much of a bite and dissolve texture than the Harvest Snaps Pea Crisps, so they may be more suitable for an older toddler.
Negatives
The sodium content is higher than my guidelines at 560mg per 100g. This is about 1.5 times more than the Harvest Snaps Pea Crisps (357mg per 100g), and about the same as most regular potato chips (500-600mg per 100g).
I would’ve liked to see more dietary fibre in these are it is quite low at 1.4g per serving. Adding a pea fibre would have boosted this.
They cost $4.00 for a 100g bag ($40.00 per kg). This is 1.4 times the price of regular potato chips ($28.20 per kg), but slightly cheaper than Harvest Snaps Pea Crisps ($41.70 per kg).
Marketing
Made with more than 35% real legumes – Yes, 40% to be exact. Although I would’ve liked to see more! As a comparison, Harvest Snaps are 70% peas.
Made with real ingredients – Correct, no fake ingredients here…
Natural flavours and colours – Yep, spinach and beetroot powder give them their colour.
Low in saturated fat – True.
Alternatives
Overall, these Off The Eaten Path Pea & Pinto Bean Sticks are a convenient snack option and are fairly similar to other legume-based snacks on the market.
If you’re after a lower-sodium option with a comparable texture, Harvest Snaps Pea Crisps have 357mg of sodium per 100g, though they come at a slightly higher price.
