Yoplait Petit Miam No Sugar Added Strawberry & Banana Yoghurt Pouch | Chewsday Review

Does this Petit Miam No Sugar Added yoghurt pouch compete with Tamar Valley? Read on to find out if it gets a oui or non from me!

Ingredients Ingredients
  • Milk, Milk Solids, Water, Strawberry Puree (4%), Cream, Banana Puree (1%), Thickeners (Corn Starch, Pectin), Natural Flavours, Lemon Juice, Enzyme (Lactase), Yoghurt Cultures: S. Thermophilus & L.Bulgaricus. Probiotic Cultures: B. Lactis.
  • There is no sugar in the ingredient list, which is tricky to find in a flavoured yoghurt.
  • Strawberry and banana make up only 5% of this yoghurt.
  • Allergens: milk
Positives Positives
  • This yoghurt has a sugar content of 6.5g per 100g, which is well within guidelines. The sugar content of flavoured yoghurts on the market ranges from 3g per 100g to over 16g per 100g, so this is definitely on the lower end. The sugar in Petit Miam No Sugar Added pouches comes from the natural sugar in milk, as well as the fruit puree used for flavouring.
  • Petit Miam yoghurt is high in calcium (162mg per 100g), but due to the smaller pouch size (70g), this yoghurt provides less calcium per serving than the Aldi Dairy Dream or Tamar Valley Kids yoghurt 110g pouches. It’s still a good source of calcium though – one Petit Miam yoghurt pouch provides 113mg calcium, which is 23% of a toddler’s daily calcium requirements, or 16% of an older child’s.
  • Saturated fat meets recommendations, and is half the amount per 100g compared to Tamar Valley and Aldi Dairy Dream.
Negatives Negatives
  • Yoghurt pouches don’t support development of biting and chewing skills or allow sensory exposure, and contribute to plastic waste. I’d save these for when you need a super convenient option on the go, and choose yoghurt in a larger tub to serve with a bowl and spoon whenever you can.
  • At $1 each, these yoghurt pouches don’t come cheap. When compared per 100g, they’re slightly more expensive than Brownes yoghurt pouches but cheaper than Tamar Valley yoghurt pouches.
Marketing Marketing
  • ‘No sugar added’. True, this yoghurt is sweetened with fruit instead of added sugar.
  • ‘Probiotics, real fruit, no artificials’. All true. This yoghurt doesn’t have artificial sweeteners which are found in some low sugar flavoured yoghurts marketed to adults, and the probiotics are the live cultures used to make the yoghurt.
Alternatives Alternatives
  • Overall, this is a reasonable choice for a flavoured kids’ yoghurt. The plain and apple & cinnamon flavours also meet our targets. The smaller serving size may be helpful to reduce waste if your child doesn’t tend to finish the larger pouches.
  • Woolworths No Added Sugar, Brownes No Added Sugar or Farmers Union No Added sugar yoghurt pouches are good options if you’re looking for a similar product in a larger serving size.
  • If you’re looking to reduce single-use plastic, the Tamar Valley family tub works out a similar cost per 100g. It is higher in saturated fat that the products above.
