Today we’re reviewing Rana’s Pumpkin & Roasted Onion Ravioli to see how generous they are when it comes to nutrition. Rana’s tagline is “Live Life Generously,” so I hope this is true when it comes to the pumpkin and onion filling, and not the salt content...

Ingredients

Filling 52%: Pumpkin Puree 41%, Semi-processed Low Fat Cheese [Low Fat Cheese (Milk, Salt, Rennet), Sunflower Oil, Potato Starch, Water, Salt], Cream (from Milk), Vegetable Fibre (contains Wheat), Grana Padano Cheese [Milk, Salt, Rennet, Lysozyme (from Egg)], Lactose, Breadcrumb (Soft Wheat Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast), Mustard Puree (Quince, Sugar, Natural Flavour), Butter (from Milk), Dehydrated Potatoes, Roasted Onion 1.1%, Corn Starch, Salt, Amaretti Biscuits (Sugar, Apricot Kernels, White Egg, Natural Flavouring), Natural Flavouring.
Pasta 48%: Soft Wheat Flour, Egg 30%, Durum Wheat Semolina.
A busy ingredient list! But nothing too surprising or concerning.
Allergens: Egg, Wheat (Gluten), Milk.
May contain: Tree Nuts, Fish, Shellfish.

Negatives

High in sodium (salt). These come in just above the healthy guideline recommendations at 410 mg per 100 g. Remember, this isn’t taking into account additional sauces, cheese topping or salt added to cooking water.
Saturated fat is 5.3 g per 100 g, which is more than half the total fat. This is above healthy guidelines and more than double most other pre-made ravioli available at the supermarket.
Fibre and iron content aren’t listed, which is a shame. There aren’t any particularly high iron ingredients so it’s probably not going to be a good source of iron on it’s own, but given it contains pumpkin and wheat I would have like to see how fibre it contains.
