- RSPCA approved chicken (50%), crumb coating (44%) (water, wheat flour, canola oil, thickener (1404), salt, yeast, sugar, wheat gluten, natural colours (curcumin, paprika oleoresins, turmeric), vegetable gum (guar gum), yeast extract, spices (wheat)), water, seasoning (wheat).
- These nuggets contain 50% chicken, which is typical for most chicken nuggets.
- The other ingredients are mostly related to the crumb.
- Allergens: Gluten, wheat.
- May contain: Milk, soy.
- Sodium is within my target range at 340mg per 100g. This is lower than Ingham’s Tempura Chicken Nuggets (455mg per 100g) and Aldi Farmwood Chicken Breast T-Rex Bites (500mg per 100g), but still slightly higher than Steggles Chicken Dino Snacks (320mg per 100g).
- The saturated fat at 1.5g per 100g is within my target – this is typical of most nuggets.
- Although they do contain some added sugar, at 2.1g per 100g they are still well within my guidelines.
- These are one of the cheaper chicken nuggets on the market at $9 per kg, in comparison to Ingham’s Tempura Chicken Nuggets ($12 per kg) and Steggles Tempura Chicken Dino Snacks ($14 per kg).
- Total fat is slightly above my guidelines, at 12.2g per 100g. Aldi Farmwood Chicken Breast T-Rex Bites and Steggles Tempura Chicken Dino Snacks contain less total fat, at 5.8g and 7.6g per 100g.
- The chicken content could be higher, as these nuggets contain the minimum amount that I recommend looking for (50% or more). Woolworths Chicken Breast Bites have the highest chicken content I’ve reviewed, containing 75% chicken.
- The dinosaur shape is sure to catch your kids’ eyes in the shop!
- “Source of protein”. These nuggets do contain a decent amount of protein per serve, but remember that most Australian kids eat enough protein to easily exceed their protein requirements.
- “No artificial colours or flavours.” True, but this is pretty standard for packaged products.
- “Made in Australia from at least 95% Australian ingredients”. Tick!
- Overall, these nuggets are a typical dinosaur chicken nugget and are similar to others on the market. If you’re after dinosaur-shaped nuggets in particular, I’d choose the Steggles Tempura Chicken Dino Snacks due to the higher chicken content and lower sodium.
- If you’re looking for a regular nugget product with a higher chicken content, the Woolworths Crumbed Chicken Breast Nuggets or Coles Tempura Chicken Nuggets are a budget-friendly option, and the Woolworths Chicken Breast Bites, containing 75% chicken, but these will cost you more.
