- Canola Oil, Avocado (34%) (Avocado, Food Acids (Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid), Vegetable Gum (415)), Eggs, Sugar, Lime Juice, Salt (1%), Garlic, Food Acid (Acetic Acid), Mustard, Colour (141,100), Preservative (202)
- Surprisingly, this dip is mostly made out of canola oil, with only 34% avocado.
- Allergens: Egg.
- May contain: Fish, Tree Nuts, Sesame.
- Yumi’s Avocado and Sea Salt dip is low in sugar at 1.7g per 100g, although it does contain a small amount of added sugar. This is similar to other avocado dips on the market.
- At 323mg per 100g, the sodium content meets our guidelines of less than 400mg per 100g. However, this is almost double the amount of sodium compared to Avofresh’s Smashed Avocado Dip (164mg per 100g).
- The low avocado content (34% avocado) is disappointing. For a dip with more avocado, try Obela’s Smashed Avocado dip (98% avocado) or Avofresh’s Smashed Avocado dip (97% avocado).
- The saturated fat is just above recommendations at 4.4g per 100g, but this is actually less than most other avocado dips. Total fat content is high (54.2g per 100g), which comes mostly from the canola oil and avocado. Most of this is unsaturated fat, so it’s not an issue.
- The dietary fibre content is not listed on the nutrition information panel, which is a shame as avocados are naturally high in fibre.
- ‘Dairy and gluten-free’. Yes, this is true.
- The marketing for Yumi’s dips is pretty simple, with the logo and dip name taking up most of the packaging. Instead, they let the perfectly curated food photos do most of the talking.
- Yumi’s Avocado and Sea Salt dip doesn’t quite make the cut for me, mostly due to its low avocado content.
- For a ready-to-go avocado dip with more avocado, no added sugar and lower sodium content, try Obela’s or Avofresh’s Smashed Avocado dips. You do pay slightly more for the higher avocado content of these dips.
- Home made avocado dip can be as simple or fancy as you like – mash avocado in the skin with a dash of lemon or lime juice, or take things up a notch with some red onion, herbs and spices. Check out my delicious guacamole recipe in the Baby, Toddler or Family Mealtimes memberships.
