CR Bob Snail Fruit Roll Snack Apple Strawberry

Bob Snail Apple-Strawberry Roll | Chewsday Review

It’s time to roll into today’s Chewsday Review and get to the core of Bob Snail Apple-Strawberry Rolls. Will I shell out the compliments on this little product? Let's see what we unravel.

Ingredients Ingredients
  • Apple 80%, Strawberry 20%.
  • Essentially, Bob Snail fruit rolls are 100% dried fruit that’s been pressed together and rolled up.
  • These fruit rolls contain no common allergens.
Positives Positives
  • No added sugar, since it’s made up of 100% fruit. The sugar content is high at 40g per 100g, but I’m not concerned given that one roll (10g) provides 4g sugar, and it’s naturally found in the dried fruit the product is made from.
  • Sodium, saturated and total fat are well within targets, as I would expect for a product made solely from fruit.
Negatives Negatives
  • Although the sugar content isn’t a big issue and dried fruit can be a nutritious snack, these strips can be quite sticky, which ideally we don’t want stuck in your child’s teeth for too long. It can help to serve with other foods and a drink of water.
  • Fibre content per serve is low (0.7g), but this is because one roll only weighs 10g. The fibre content per 100g (6.9g) is decent and similar to dried apple. Interestingly, Bob Snail Tropical Fruit rolls have more fibre at 1.5g per serve compared to the apple and berry flavour. If you’re looking for a higher fibre content per serve, muesli bars like Carman’s Oat Bars are where it’s at with 4.4g fibre per 30g bar.
  • At $80 per kg, Bob Snail Fruit Rolls are pricey. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, you can find dried fruit at less than $20 per kg.
Marketing Marketing
  • “100% real fruit” – true, this product only contains dried fruit.
  • “No added sugar, gluten free and vegan” – again yes, since it’s made from only fruit.
  • “No artificial colours or flavours” – correct.
  • Most of the marketing relies on the eye-catching, bright packaging and googly-eyed snail.
Alternatives Alternatives
  • Bob Snail Apple-Strawberry Rolls are a decent choice if you’re looking for a convenient lunchbox snack, to add variety to your fresh and dried fruit rotation.
  • A cheaper option would be to offer dried fruit. Larger packet or ‘scoop and weigh’ dried fruit is also more environmentally friendly, as there’s less plastic involved compared to individually wrapped products.
  • You could also try out one of my fruit bar or ball recipes from the Toddler or Family Mealtimes memberships.
